Digital Desk: Curd is a staple in nearly every Indian home. It is both a creamy and refreshing probiotic. Curd is a great dairy food that typically contains acidic ingredients such as lemon juice or vinegar. Thus, it promotes digestion and avoids calcium deficiencies. Many lactose intolerant people can consume yoghurt because it produces lactic acid from the lactose in milk. It produces antibiotic chemicals that prevent disease-causing germs from growing in the GI tract. It enhances B vitamin production and mineral absorption. Consuming curd while taking antibiotics helps to prevent or reduce the frequency of antibiotic-related diarrhea.

However, if you were raised in a traditional Indian household, you may have been advised that dahi should not be consumed at night. But let's see what Ayurveda has to say about this first.
Is it okay to eat Dahi aka curd at night?
Yes, curd has a tonne of advantages, but it also has some disadvantages. According to ayurveda, there are a few reasons why you shouldn't eat curd at night.
1. Curd consumption at night is not recommended by Ayurveda because it causes mucus formation. Eating curd at night may result in the formation of mucus in the nasal tube since it has both sweet and sour flavours.
2. People with arthritis shouldn't consume curd on a regular basis. Curd is a sour food, and sour foods have been associated with an increase in joint pain.
3. Curd shouldn't be consumed at night if you have a weak digestive system. If you frequently experience acidity, indigestion, or acid reflux, you should avoid eating curd when your digestion is slow, which is usually at night.
4. Those who are lactose intolerant can digest curd but not milk. However, you should limit your curd consumption. When consuming curd, take breaks.
5. Due to its mucus-encouraging properties, people who are prone to asthma, cough and colds, and other respiratory problems should avoid eating curd at night. The best time to eat curd is during the day, ideally in the afternoon.
6. Curds can be overly filling for some people, resulting in constipation. Only excessive consumption causes the problem.
