Try These 7 Tips To Protect Your Eyes This Summer

Allergies, red eyes, conjunctivitis, and headaches are frequent eye problems that occur when the temperature rises.

Digital Desk: Summer is here, and spending time outside can be difficult for your eyes. Allergies, red eyes, conjunctivitis, and headaches are frequent eye problems that occur when the temperature rises.

While India experiences a severe heatwave, Dr Amrit, senior specialist at Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, gives seven tips to protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun:

Wear sunglasses: Wear sunglasses or goggles that protect you from harmful UV rays whenever you step outside under the sun. Sunglasses shield your eyes from harmful UV rays. Make sure the sunglasses you choose are large enough to cover as much of the area surrounding your eyes as possible.

Wear hats: Wear a hat or cap anytime you go out in the Summer to avoid the burning heat. To protect your eyes and the skin surrounding your eyes, always wear a wide-brimmed hat.

Eat leafy vegetables: Green leafy vegetables are high in nutrients and linked to improved vision. Leafy veggies include vitamins and antioxidants that protect your vision and keep you hydrated. Moreover, Fatty fish, almonds, citrus fruits, and lentils are other foods you can include in your diet.

Stay hydrated: Dehydration is one of the most common summer problems, leading to various serious health issues. Dehydration has an impact on both your body and your vision. It frequently causes irritation and redness in our eyes.

Before going out, make sure you drink enough water. Muskmelon, lettuce, coconut water, and other nonstarchy fruits and vegetables are wonderful choices for preventing dehydration in the Summer.

Avoid midday sun: Stay inside as much as possible during the Summer, especially in the late mornings and afternoons. During this time, the sun's brightness and UV rays are at their highest.

Keep your eyes lubricated: Your eyes may become tired and dry in high temperatures, and they need to be cleaned to avoid allergies or infections. Eye drops can be used to cleanse your eyes which act as a relief to your tired eyes.

Especially if you wear contact lenses, keep them feeling comfortable by properly washing your eyes and replacing them according to your ophthalmologist's instructions.

Get enough sleep: Amid the extreme heatwave that many parts of the country are experiencing, the sun drains all the energy from you and your eyes. At the end of the day, our tired eyes feel dry and irritated and touching your eyes while sleeping can lead to irritation or bacteria in your eyes.  Make sure you don't compromise on sleep and get plenty of it in the Summer.
