New Delhi: As an initiative of Make in India, the central government has started distributing indigenous ventilators to hospitals across India to fight against Covid-19. About 3,000 ventilators have been distributed to states in the first slot.
For some Coronavirus patients, ventilators are life-saving medical equipments as they tend to develop acute respiratory disease syndrome (ARDS). The Union Health Ministry on May 1, in a press statement, has indicated a demand of 75,000 ventilators till June. A senior government official confirmed that the domestic production of ventilators in the coming days is going to speed up.
On 13 May, the central government in its press statement said that 50000 ‘Made-in-India’ ventilators will be purchased from PM CARES Fund at a cost of approximately Rs 2000 crores for the better treatment of critical Covid-19 cases.
