Ministry of Tourism undertakes major initiatives to boost tourism in North East India

Guwahati: A conference was conducted in Guwahati on Monday by the Ministry of Tourism to undertake a major initiative towards tourism in the Northeastern states. The two-day-long event, Tourism and Culture Ministers Conference of the North Eastern States took place at Hotel Radisson Blu, Guwahati.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the conference along with Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union MoS for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs; G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Culture DoNER; and Ajay Bhatt, Union MoS for Tourism and Defence on Monday.

Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that, “Tourism and culture are vital engines of growth of North-East. With Honourable PM Sri @narendramodi’s vision and blessings, we have an opportunity to harness the region’s best potential. It becomes further convenient with Sri @kishanreddybjp entrusted with both DONER & @tourismgoi portfolios”.

CM Sarma thanked Union Ministers Sri G. Kishan Reddy, Sri Arjun, and Sri Ajay Bhatt for gracing the two-day Tourism & Culture Ministers Conference. Welcoming the Tourism and Culture Ministers and other senior officers for their presence at the conference, Sarma acknowledged the club for choosing Guwahati to host this all-important conference.

Sarma stated that for the overall development of Assam and other Northeastern states, Culture and Tourism play a very crucial role. The chief minister claimed that due to the poor road connectivity, most tourist destinations are not well promoted. We must step up investments in road connectivity to get the best of our tourism potential.

Moreover, under Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s leadership, the development of the North East, especially in Tourism and Culture, would gain new momentum. CM Sarma urged Reddy to invest more on-road connectivity within the tourist destinations of the NE states.

Himanta also said that to promote historical, spiritual, and natural places of tourist attractions, the concept of ‘Brand North East’ should be popularised. If all the states work together, the sector can progress well in the next five years.
