Jharkhand : At least 11 security personnel of the CRPF and Jharkhand Police were injured in a blast in Kuchai area of Saraikela Kharsawan district on Tuesday. An improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated at 4.53 am by suspected Naxals while personnel were undertaking special operations.
Among the injured are eight personnel from the 209th battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a unit of the CRPF, and three Jharkhand police personnel. The injured were airlifted to Ranchi at 6.52 am.
According to officials, the improvised explosive device (IED) is suspected to have been buried under the dirt track.
The Security personnel were on Long range Patrolling (LRP) when IED blast hit the vehicle. After detonating IED blast, Maoist Guerrillas started firing. The security personnel also retaliated the Maoist firing.
The attack comes close on heels of a massive attack on May 1 where as many as 15 policemen and a civilian driver were killed in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli after their bus was blown up using an improvised explosive device (IED) set up by Maoist. An investigation is underway.
