Malappuram (Kerala) : A 12-year old girl in the Malappuram district of Kerala was raped for 2 years by over thirty people. The abuse began when the child was 10 but the matter came to light when she attended a counselling session at her school.
The authorities of a shelter home took her with them, while she hurriedly wrote her parting words “Sorry Amma” (Sorry, Mother) in the wooden door of her two-room apartment. The counsellor to whom the young girl confided the matter, said that she was in a lot of trauma and was guilt-ridden for not being able to contribute to her family’s financial expenses.
The survivor said that she was raped by her father’s friend and later by may others, who offered her family money. The girl’s statement was recorded before a magistrate on Sunday and medical examination of her confirmed rape.
Three people, including the girl’s father were arrested on Sunday night. Two men were booked under various sections of the POSCO Act and sections 354(sexual harassment) and 376 (rape) of the IPC, while the girl’s father was booked under the Juvenile Justice Act.
