New Delhi : Congress has faced a major blow with Congress leader Sajjan Kumar being found guilty in 1984 Anti-Sikh riots and sentenced to life in jail by the Delhi High Court. The Congress leader was accused and is found guilty for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Notably, Sajjan Kumar was convicted for killing five members of a family in Raj Nagar in Delhi which later triggered a big riot in 1984. It was right then only, the Congress leader was asked to surrender by December 31 and restricted from leaving the city.

The Delhi high Court states, “It is important to assure the victims that despite the challenges truth will prevail.” The court even specially mentioned the courage of Jagdish Kaur, the victim who fought so long seeking justice for him and punishment against Sajjan Kumar. The court later added, “The aftershock of those atrocities is still being felt.”

The riot triggered by this killing led to death of at least 3,000 another people who were killed by mobs. The assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh Bodyguards was the biggest incident of the year which was later followed by massive mass riot.
