'Sorry papa...': 20-year-old NEET aspirant dies by suicide in Kota, 2nd suicide in 48 hours

A one line note read, "Sorry, papa. I couldn't do it this year either," was found in the room. And a sad smiley was added to the note. 

Digital Desk: In yet another case of suicide, a 20-year-old medical aspirant allegedly hanged himself in his room just days before his third attempt at cracking the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) exam. The student, identified by the police as Bharat Kumar Rajput, is a Dholpur, Rajasthan, resident. Tuesday morning, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan. This incident marks the second suspected suicide case in Kota in the past 48 hours. 

Rajput, according to Jawahar Nagar Sub-Inspector Gopal Singh, has previously taken the NEET exam twice and was set to appear again on May 5.

A one line note read, "Sorry, papa. I couldn't do it this year either," was found in the room. And a sad smiley was included to the note. 

In Kota, there have been nine alleged suicides by coaching students since January. This case is the most recent. In the coaching hub last year, there were 26 student suicides.

The dead student had been studying for the medical entrance exam for the previous year, according to the police, while lodging in the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area as a paying guest. His nephew, Rohit, shared the room with him and was also preparing for Neet exams.

According to Singh, the medical candidate killed himself on Tuesday morning while his nephew was outside, reportedly at 10:30 a.m. When his nephew Rohit returned at approximately 11:15 a.m., he found that the room was locked from the inside. Using the window as a peek-hole, he was able to see Bharat hanging from the ceiling fan using a bedsheet. 

Student was under stress of not performing well

The student may have taken the drastic measure because he was under pressure to perform well on his third try, according to the police's preliminary investigation. But only after a comprehensive inquiry can the true cause of death be ascertained. 

The body has been taken to the MBS Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem, which will take place once his family members from the Dholpura district arrive. 

Earlier on Sunday, Sumit Panchal, a 20-year-old NEET candidate from Haryana, is said to have committed suicide by hanging from his hostel room ceiling fan. From that location, no note was found. Arvind Bhardwaj, Circle Inspector (CI) at Kunhari police station, stated that no suicide note was found in the student's hostel room and that the motive for his drastic action is still unknown. 

However his parents suspected it was murder and insisted on an unbiased inquiry and the filing of a murder case against unidentified people.
