Guwahati/ 10th April’2018 (Prag News Desk):
27 children, 2 teachers and a driver were reported dead from Nurpur area of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh after a private bus skidded off the road and rolled down deep into a gorge. Santosh Patyal, a senior local police official said “The bus rolled into a 200 ft-deep gorge killing 27 schoolchildren, two teachers and the driver,”
Most of the students were in the age of 10 to 12 years. Local villagers had begun rescue operations even before officials could reach the spot. Around 45 students of Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Memorial Public School were returning home when the bus skidded off the road and fell into the 200 feet gorge. Till now 30 people have been extracted from the bus, with no survivors. The death toll may rise as rescue teams of local administration and the National Disaster response Force are still involved in the rescue process looking for any possible live person.
The Bus was in such a mangled state that, the extraction of the bodies became a grueling task for the rescue teams.
“Prima facie, negligent driving and over speeding are the main reasons for the accident,” said an official investigating the accident site. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
