Guwahati : The KMSS (Krishak Mukti Sangram Samittee) along with 69 other supporting regional organizations representing various ethnic groups will stage an indefinite hunger strike from December 9 in New Delhi demanding the scraping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 , ahead of the winter session of the parliament.

“Two teams have left for Delhi already to take part in the strike. Another team will leave by tomorrow,” said Akhil Gogoi while addressing the media here.
Gogoi said that the BJP government has nullified the Indian Constitution by striving to implement the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

“The bill would jeopardize the identity of the indigenous people of the state if it is passed by the parliament. The government has been misleading the people.”
Lashing out at BJP-led central government over its move to privatize 11 oil fields of the state, Gogoi said, “Modi government has been working for the capitalists. It does not bother for the interest of the indigenous people of the state.”
Gogoi further added that the people of the state have waited for long, and tolerated the state BJP government, but not anymore.

The fight for scrapping the Citizenship Bill has been going on for a very long time. There have been unrest across the state regarding the controversial Citizenship Bill which has caused widespread protests and strikes leading to violence in the state.
