Air India cancels flight to and from Israel after Hamas attack
The Israeli Defence Force launched a counterstrike in Gaza, which resulted in 198 Palestinian deaths and 1,610 injuries, according to health officials in Gaza.

Digital Desk: Following Hamas' attack on Israel on Saturday, Air India has cancelled all of its flights to and from Tel Aviv. Israel had a "state of war" declared after the militant group's assault.

According to a spokeswoman for Air India, "the cancellation of flights AI139 from Delhi to Tel Aviv on October 7, 2023, and AI140 from Tel Aviv to Delhi on October 8, 2023, was made in the best interests of the passengers' and crews' safety. In accordance with their needs, passengers are given full support."

Following Hamas' unprecedented attack on Israel, in which the militant organisation launched a barrage of missiles from Gaza and sent gunmen across the border, the commercial airline announced the cancellation. Over 100 Israelis were killed and 740 others were hurt in the early morning clashes in southern Israel between gangs of Palestinian fighters and security forces.

As a "state of war" was proclaimed in Israel as a result of attacks by Hamas militants from Gaza, the Indian Embassy in Israel issued a warning for Indian citizens on Saturday. Indians living in Israel were urged to follow safety procedures and exercise caution by the authorities.

"In view of the current situation in Israel, all Indian nationals in Israel are requested to remain vigilant and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities. Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement and stay close to safety shelters," the embassy said in a statement.

    Israel-Gaza Attack

Around 5,000 rockets were fired from Gaza by Hamas early on Saturday, in what was thought to be the largest onslaught on Israel in years. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in a video speech on Saturday that "We are at war, and we will win" in response to military offensives in southern Israel and reprisal by the Israeli Defence Forces.

In order to combat Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army launched "Operation Iron Swords."

The Israeli Defence Force launched a counterstrike in Gaza, which resulted in 198 Palestinian deaths and 1,610 injuries, according to health officials in Gaza.
