Amid wrestlers’ protest, WFI elections to be held on July 4
According to sources, Justice Mittal Kumar can pick the date of the SGM and elections on his own, and it will be up to him whether to hold the elections on July 4 or a few days later.

Digital Desk: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) named former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar as the returning officer for the July 4 Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections.

After meeting with protesting wrestlers on June 7, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur stated that WFI elections would be held by June 30, although it was evident that this deadline would be difficult to accomplish because the WFI requires a 21-day notice to summon a Special General Meeting (SGM).

IOA CEO Kalyan Chaubey informed Justice Mittal Kumar of his appointment and sought his approval for the position.

"The IOA must move forward to conduct elections for the WFI Executive Committee, and we are pleased to appoint you as a returning officer to do so." "You should think about appointing one assistant returning officer and other staff to help with the election," Chaubey stated in the letter.

"Elections must be held at the WFI's SGM, which is scheduled for July 4th, and the election schedule must be drawn accordingly." We eagerly await your confirmation of acceptance, as well as the smooth execution of the WFI elections on July 4."

According to sources, Justice Mittal Kumar can pick the date of the SGM and elections on his own, and it will be up to him whether to hold the elections on July 4 or a few days later.

The WFI is comprised of 25 affiliated units, including the union territories of Chandigarh and Delhi. Each state unit may send two representatives, each of whom has one vote. As a result, the WFI electoral college will consist of 50 votes.

According to the WFI constitution, state units can only designate delegates who are members of their executive bodies.
What happens if the eligible candidates linked with Singh register their nominations for the elections remains to be seen.

Karan Singh, Singh's son, was a vice president under the old WFI structure and is also involved with the UP wrestling association. Vishal Singh, his son-in-law, is the head of the Bihar Wrestling Association.

They are both qualified to run for state body representatives.
