Anantnag Gunfight Over; Lashkar Commander Among 2 Terrorists Killed: Police

According to Kumar, the gunfight, which claimed the lives of four security personnel including two army officers and a police officer, has ended.

Digital Desk: According to Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar, Uzair Khan, a commander for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was one of the two terrorists killed in a gunfight that lasted seven days in the Anantnag region of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kumar, the gunfight, which claimed the lives of four security personnel including two army officers and a police officer, has ended.

The body of Uzair Khan, the LeT commander, has so far been found. The dead body of a second terrorist is visible, but retrieval has not yet been successful, the ADGP told reporters in Anantnag.

The search effort, he said, will continue even after the gunfight, which started on Wednesday of last week in the Gadole forest area of south Kashmir, is finished.

"There is still a huge area that needs to be searched. There may be a large number of unexploded shells that will be found and destroyed. We ask people not to visit the area, he continued.

Security personnel had received information that two to three terrorists were present, according to the ADGP. "There's a chance the third corpse is out there somewhere. When the hunt is over, we'll know," Kumar said.
