Rahul Gandhi was supposed to walk 11 kilometres on Friday but had to cancel after only 500 metres.
According to claims filed by Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi began walking towards Vessu in South Kashmir as planned after arriving in Qazigund, but the outer cordon, which was to be handled by Jammu and Kashmir Police, had vanished.
Meanwhile, taking to twitter, AICC incharge Rajni Patil stated that JK administration "failed to provide protection to Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Shri Rahul Gandhi".
Meanwhile, talking to media reporters in Anantnag, Rahul Gandhi said, "I think it's crucial that the Police manage the throng so that we can do the yatra. It's difficult for me to go against what my security team recommends."
"The police arrangement had completely failed, and the personnel who were supposed to supervise the crowd were nowhere to be found. My security guards were quite concerned about me walking further on yatra, so I had to cancel my yatra. "Other yatris did the walk," Gandhi added.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra commenced this morning about 9.00 a.m. from the Old Highway in Qazigund, Ramban district. The yatra was intended to start at Banihal and travel through Qazigund to the Khanabal area of Anantnag district.
