Chennai: Around seven hundred life convicts, languishing in various jails in Tamil Nadu, will see the open sky on September 15, thanks to the state government.
On the birth anniversary of former chief minister C N Annadurai, the Tamil Nadu government will release 700 convicts, serving life sentences.
The government order regarding the release of the convicts will be issued by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)government soon.
Additionally, CM Stalin informed that a total of 5,570 cases registered against those protested against the Citizenship Amendment Act, methane and neutrino projects, Kadankulam Nuclear Power Plant and Eight-lane Chennai-Salem highway proposal, among others, have been withdrawn.
Moreover, cases registered by the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regime against those who had staged a protest against National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) shops would also be withdrawn.
The Tamil Nadu government also appealed Justice A. Arumughaswamy commission to submit their final investigation report into former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s death as soon as possible.
