Digital Desk: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced significant boosts for the agriculture industry while presenting the Union Budget 2023–24. The FM announced that the agriculture credit target for FY24 has been raised to Rs 20 lakh crore. The emphasis will be on animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries.
Moreover, Sitharaman said that the Union Budget 2023–24 focuses on seven priorities, the "saptrishi guiding us through Amrit Kaal." These are: inclusive development, reaching the last mile, infrastructure and investment, unleashing potential, green growth, youth power, and the financial sector. Notably, this is the government's final full-fledged budget before the Lok Sabha elections early next year.
Additionally, FM Sitharaman stated that the government will implement a scheme to provide foodgrains to all Antaodaya and priority households for the next year, beginning January 1, 2023. She also stated that the current year's economic growth was expected to be 7% and that the Indian economy was on the right track despite challenges.
