Digital Desk: A Congress leader charged caste discrimination after Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, was controversially left off the guest list for a G20 gala dinner. Mohan Kumaramangalam of the Tamil Nadu Congress said, "Modi hai toh Manu hai," as party leaders criticized the government for not inviting Kharge, a Dalit leader to the high-profile event.
Kumaramangalam said that Prime Minister Modi was upholding the legacy of Maharshi Manu, an ancient Hindu sage who wrote Manusmriti, a Sanskrit often described as a 'guide to Hindu conduct.
The Congress leader noted numerous instances where leaders from backward classes were not invited to important events.
As stated by Kumaramangalam, President Droupadi Murmu, and Former President Ram Nath Kovind were not invited to the inaugural ceremony of the new Parliament building or the 'Bhoomi Pujan' of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticized the government over the issues. He said, "It tells you that they don't value the leader of the Opposition and didn’t invite us to the G20 Summit. They don’t value the leadership of 60% of the nation’s population."
According to Kharge's office, he was not invited to the G20 dinner that the President is hosting on Saturday. However, reports state that no other political party's leader has also received an invitation.
Government of India secretaries, chief ministers, cabinet members, state ministers, and other notable attendees have all been invited to the dinner.
