Digital Desk: India has seen a continuous increase in daily Covid-19 cases, with the nation's active caseload hitting 53,720, as per the Union Health Ministry's data updated on Saturday. On Friday, there were 49,622 active cases in the country.
Nonetheless, there is a moderate decrease in daily Covid-19 instances. India has recorded 10,753 new infections in the last 24 hours, surpassing the 11,000 thresholds on Friday.
According to the data, 4,42,23,211 people have recovered from coronavirus infection since the pandemic started, while 5,31,091 have died due to the virus.
A health expert has recommended individuals to wear masks and adopt Covid-appropriate behaviour as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country continues to rise on a daily basis.
Dr Sandeep Nayar, Pulmonologist and HOD at BLK Hospital stated that masks should be made mandatory in crowded places.
"With COVID-19 instances on the rise, it is critical that people begin wearing masks. A mask should always be worn before entering any busy area. Wear double-layer masks since they are particularly good at preventing infection in places like hospitals," said Dr. Nayar.
Prominent epidemiologists and virologists believe that the latest Covid variant, XBB.1.16, could be the reason for the rise in cases.
"Pregnant women, those over the age of 60, people with chronic illnesses, and people with underlying health issues who are immunocompromised are at a higher risk of severe illnesses and fatalities from Covid-19. We must safeguard them "Read the statement.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) recommended citizens not to panic in the midst of increasing Covid cases, instead emphasizing the importance of maintaining proper hygiene.
"Not to worry. We have already controlled it, and we will do it again with your support. The number of Covid cases is increasing, but don't get panic. Maintain hygiene," the statement said.
