    Covid-19 Update: India records 2.71 lakh cases, 314 deaths in 24 hrs
    Digital Desk: India has lately witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases as day-to-day positive cases show sharp spikes. India recorded 2,71,202 fresh Covid infections in 24 hours. These numbers show the highest daily count in the last eight months.

    The comprehensive Covid caseload streamed to 37,122,164 on Sunday. According to the Union Health Ministry's latest data on coronavirus, around 7,743 Omicron variant cases were recorded in the nation.

    With 1,702 cases of a fresh coronavirus variant in the past day, India witnessed a peak of 28.17% in its Omicron count.

    The day-to-day casualties due to the virus stood at 314. With this number, the number of individuals who have succumbed to the deadly infection has increased to 4,86,066. The case fatality rate stood at 1.31%.

    Moreover, the active cases have risen to 15,50,377, constituting 4.18% of the total infections. As a result, the Health Ministry stated the national Covid-19 recovery rate has dropped to 94.51%.

    On Saturday, Delhi reported a drop in new Covid-19 cases. Yet, the city registered 20,718 fresh infections yesterday. Thirty individuals have died due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities to 25,335.

    Maharashtra registered 42,462 new coronavirus infections. In addition, the state registered 23 casualties due to Covid-19. Likewise, 125 fresh Omicron cases were detected from the state on Saturday.

    The daily Covid cases also dropped in West Bengal yesterday. Yet, the state counted 19,064 cases and 39 casualties in a day.

    Meantime, India completes one year of the world's largest vaccination campaign on Sunday. Last year, on January 16, India began the Covid-19 vaccination drive, forming with the Health Care employees. 

    As per the health ministry, 65.51 crore people have been fully immunized in the nation so far. At the same time, 90.68 crores have taken the single dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
