Digital Desk: Four people were killed and at least 80 were injured after two buses collided head-on in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district today. The force of the collision was so strong that the front ends of both vehicles were damaged. Immediately following the incident, people and police rushed the injured to the hospital.
"One of the tyres of the two buses burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and veer to the right side of the road, crashing with another bus coming from the opposite side," senior Cuddalore police officer R Rajaram said.
Both bus drivers were killed in the crash. One bus was heading to Tiruvannamalai, while the other, which had a tyre blowout, was heading back from Panruti.
The injured passengers were admitted to a government hospital in the district. Those who have been severely injured have been shifted to Puducherry's Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Research.
M K Stalin expressed his condolences for the loss and provided compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 50,000 for those severely injured, and Rs 25,000 for those with minor injuries. He has also assigned two ministers to ensure that the injured are properly cared for.
