    Delhi Court sends four people to police custody in the Dalit Girl’s Murder, Rape Case

    New Delhi: A priest and three others were sent to police custody on Monday for the alleged rape of a 9-year-old girl earlier this month. They have been sent to police custody for three days as of now. They were handed over to the police by the Additional Sessions Judge Ashutosh Kumar saying they needed to be interrogated more as some new information has come to its knowledge. They were produced before the court through video conferencing. The four accused are all known to the girl’s mother and were identified as Radhey Shyam, the priest of the crematorium, and three workers Salim, Laxmi Narayan, and Kuldeep.





    The crime branch of Delhi police asked for a five-day remand of the accused to confront them to the witnesses and the evidence in an application presented before the court.





    The 9-year girl was raped, murdered, and cremated without her parents' consent according to the prosecution. The Delhi Police registered the case based on the statement made by the 9-year-old’s mother.





    The four accused are booked under Section 376 (rape), 302 (murder), and 576 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and also with the relevant sections of the Protection of Children and Sexual Offences(POCSO) Act and SC/ST Act.
