Digital Desk: The Delhi High Court enhanced Payal Abdullah's monthly support and ordered the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah on Thursday, to pay his estranged wife Rs. 1.5 lakh per month in maintenance.

On April 26, 2018, a trial court granted maintenance to Payal Abdullah in the amount of Rs. 75,000 and their son in the amount of Rs. 25,000 every month till he turned 18.

Payal Abdullah approached the High Court for an increase in the maintenance that had been granted in July 2018.

On Thursday, Justice Subramonium Prasad ruled on Payal Abdullah's appeal and ordered Omar Abdullah to pay the increased monthly maintenance.

Additionally, the high court ordered him to pay Rs 60,000 per month for his son's education.

Payal Abdullah had approached the high court, arguing that the maintenance payment made was insufficient to fund their boys' schooling.

In 2016, Omar Abdullah's divorce-related plea was rejected by the court. The judge had ruled that he failed to prove cruelty or abandonment as well as an irretrievable breakup of the marriage. He appealed the decision before the High Court.
