Digital Desk: Rouse Avenue Court has extended former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia's CBI custody by 2 days till March 6. The central agency detained Sisodia on Sunday night.
Eventually, the court ordered him to remain in CBI custody till March 4.
The next hearing date for Sisodia's bail application has been set by the court for March 10. In addition, the court informed the CBI about his bail request. Earlier, the CBI requested three-day detention of Sisodia.
Senior Attorney Dayan Krishnan, who was arguing on behalf of Sisodia, rejected the CBI's appeal for an extension of the remand. "Seeking an extension of remand by CBI is not justified," Krishnan argued.
Sisodia has been arrested for alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the excise policy 2021–2022, which was later scrapped. The Opposition made accusations of wrongdoing, leading to the withdrawal of the policy.
Sisodia filed a bail plea in Rouse Avenue Court on Friday after the Supreme Court refused to get involved. A trial court in Delhi received a new bail petition on behalf of Sisodia, who claimed that his custody would not accomplish anything since all recoveries in the case had already been made.
It further stated how the former deputy chief minister of Delhi was assisting the probe and appearing whenever the CBI called. It continued that the other suspects who had been detained in this case have already been granted bail.
In his plea, Sisodia also mentioned his significant constitutional role as deputy CM and his deep-seated community connections.
