Digital Desk: The head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, continued her sit-in on Tuesday at a hospital after being stopped from meeting the minor who was reportedly raped by a high-ranking Delhi government employee.
The head of the Delhi women's panel accused Delhi Police of "hooliganism" and questioned why she wasn't allowed to visit the minor or her family when the chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had met the minor's mother.
In connection with an alleged sexual assault of the minor, Delhi Police apprehended the government officer on Monday. His wife was also arrested in the matter.
It was claimed that the minor had been sexually assaulted for several months resulting in her becoming pregnant.
"The Delhi Police are engaged in hooliganism. They won't let me meet either the girl or her mother. I don't know what the Delhi Police are trying to hide from me. I am told that the NCPCR chairperson was allowed to meet the girl's mother. Why can't the DCW chief meet the (minor's) mother if the chairwoman of the NCPCR can?" Maliwal questioned.
Bansuri Swaraj, a BJP leader and the descendant of the late Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, charged the DCW director with obstructing the ongoing probe in the case earlier on Monday.
"Swati Maliwal-ji is in charge of making sure that the minor gets justice. Why is she sitting on a protest and obstructing the investigation?, ” she stated.
Police claim that the young girl took up residence with the accused in Burari from October 2020 to February 2021 after the demise of her father, who was also a Delhi government official.
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, on Monday, suspended the accused officer, pending investigation.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Premoday Khakha, Assistant Director is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect," read an official order issued by the Delhi government.
