New Delhi/Kampala: The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday has warned that fake vaccines are being distributed in India and the fake batches need to be identified and stopped immediately.
People who got jabbed in July and August have been asked to report if they experience any side effects to the national drug regulators and pharmacovigilance bodies in order to find any fake vaccines batches being jabbed in their COVID vaccine supply chains.
“The falsified products were reported in July and August 2021. The genuine manufacturer of Covishield (Serum Institute of India) has confirmed that the products listed in this alert are falsified. These falsified products have been reported at the patient level in Uganda and India,” the WHO said.
The WHO further stated that only genuine Covishield vaccine is to be jabbed to immune people of the age of 18 or older to protect against COVID-19.
False vaccines can lead to serious health issues for people around the world and will only increase the burden on health systems.
Apart from India, fake vaccines have also been reported in Uganda.
India is the second most affected country by the COVID-19 Virus in the world and India has vaccinated around 13% of its population since its vaccine drive began in January this year.
