G20 Summit: Assam's Bihu dance presented in 'Distorted' manner while welcoming UK PM

Digital Desk: A controversy has sparked over the 'distorted' presentation of the Bihu dance during the welcome ceremony for UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in the nation's capital for the G20 summit.

Bihu dance, which is a native to the state of Assam, is said to have been 'distorted' by the government when it was performed at the G20 summit.

As a result, some netizens expressed their anger on social media.

Many people have called it an "insult" to Assamese culture, and some of them have pointed out the dress code of the dancers.

A user wrote on platform ‘X’, “It looked like someone is dancing with a saree."

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived at New Delhi's Palam airport earlier today. His wife, Akshata Murthy, an entrepreneur, was accompanying him.

Notably, this is Rishi Sunak's first visit to India since becoming prime minister in October of last year.

Sunak is slated to speak with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (September 9).

The G20 Summit is being held for the first time when India is in the presidency. On December 1 of last year, India took over as G20 president and 60 cities around the nation hosted 200 G20 meetings.

Brazil will take over the next G20 presidency in 2024, followed by South Africa in 2025.
