Ghar Wapsi: Amid celebrations and victory rallies, farmers vacate Delhi borders

New Delhi: The long march towards home for thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh who had laid siege to Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders, have begun. The demands made by the protesting farmer unions have been fulfilled, the three contentious farm laws have been repealed. The contentious legislation was withdrawn in the Winter Session of Parliament earlier this month.

Speaking to media persons, an elated Rakesh Tikait, said that a large number of farmers have already left for their homes. Others will be vacating the spot at around 8 am today after praying and engaging in some celebrations before beginning on their victory journey. Rakesh Tikait, who is the leader of BKU (Bharatiya Kisan Union), will be leaving Delhi borders on December 15.

Meanwhile, the farmer leaders will be honoured by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on December 13 at Golden Temple at Amritsar. This decision was taken during a committee meeting chaired by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami.

Rakesh Tikait flagged off the first group of farmers yesterday, headed for Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.

Before leaving the protesting area, all farmers broke into a gig into the famous Hindi song “Ye desh hai veer jawano”, yesterday evening, rejoicing the success and victory of their efforts, sacrifices and a strong protest.
