Digital Desk: In a significant move to enhance transparency in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system and encourage compliance, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has announced the launch of the 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikar' invoice incentive scheme. The scheme, set to kick off on September 1, aims to motivate consumers to demand GST bills for every purchase they make, thereby fostering accountability and contributing to the broader goal of curbing tax evasion.
The 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikar' scheme is slated to commence in six states and Union Territories: Haryana, Assam, Gujarat, and the UTs of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Puducherry. Under this innovative initiative, consumers have the chance to earn cash rewards ranging from Rs 10,000 to an impressive Rs 1 crore by uploading their GST invoices through the dedicated mobile application available on both IOS and Android platforms.
The CBIC emphasized that this scheme is a vital step in encouraging the adoption of electronic invoices for Business-to-Consumer (B2C) transactions. While Business-to-Business (B2B) transactions with an annual turnover exceeding Rs 5 crore have already been mandated to use e-invoices, the new scheme extends this practice to the B2C interactions. This move aligns with the government's larger agenda of promoting digital transactions and reducing tax evasion.
To qualify for the monthly and quarterly lucky draws, an uploaded invoice must reflect a minimum purchase value of Rs 200. Each individual is eligible to submit up to 25 invoices per month, starting from September. The invoices should contain essential details, including the seller's GSTIN, invoice number, amount paid, and tax amount. Winners of the draw will be eligible for cash rewards, further encouraging consumers to participate actively in the scheme.
"Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar! Scheme to be launched from September 01, 2023 in states of Haryana, Assam, Gujarat & UTs of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu & Puducherry. Invoice incentive scheme which allows you to earn cash prizes on upload of GST Invoices," said CBIC in a tweet.
As India continues its efforts to streamline the taxation system and ensure transparency in financial transactions, the 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikar' scheme stands out as a proactive measure to promote GST compliance at the consumer level. With the incentive of cash rewards, individuals are expected to actively request GST invoices, ultimately contributing to the growth of a more accountable and efficient tax system in the country.
The scheme's launch on September 1 marks a significant milestone in the nation's journey towards enhanced tax transparency, and its impact on the participating states and Union Territories will be closely observed by experts, officials, and the public alike.
