PM Modi used the parable of 'The Thirsty Crow' to teach pupils how to distinguish between hard labour and clever work.
Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today interacted with students, parents and teachers during his annual 'Pariksha Pe Charcha'. At the interaction, he advised parents against putting undue pressure on children over marks and also gave tips to students on keeping a balance between hard work and smart work.
"I urge the parents not to pressurise your children. But at the same time, students should also not underestimate their capabilities, said the Prime Minister.
"It is very natural for family members to have a lot of expectations, and there is nothing wrong with that, but if the family members have these expectations because of social position, then is a cause for concern," he said.
During the discussion, a student asked Prime Minister Modi, "What is more crucial? Is it better to work smart or hard?"
"Some people work hard and some people work smart," the Prime Minister joked. "We need to understand the intricacies of these issues and operate accordingly to obtain the desired results," he stated.

'Pariksha Pe Charcha' is an annual meeting between the Prime Minister and students regarding issues such as stress and exam preparation.
He also utilized a cricket analogy to emphasize the need for concentration.
"Just like a batter focuses on the ball delivered to him while disregarding the cheers of fours and sixes from the audience," PM Modi stated. "Do not succumb to pressures. Maintain your concentration, "he went on to say.
The Prime Minister stressed the significance of time management and encouraged students to learn it from their mothers. "Have you ever observed your mother's ability to manage her time? A mother is never troubled by the enormous amount of work she does. If you observe your mother, you will learn how to manage your time effectively "PM Modi told students.
A few students also questioned him how he handles opposition and media criticism. PM Modi responded with a brilliant retort.
"This is an off-topic question," he explained. He went on to say that "criticism is like purifying" in a democracy. "Criticism is essential for a prosperous democracy," PM Modi continued.
The sixth edition of the interaction was conducted at New Delhi's Talkatora Indoor Stadium.
This year, over 38 lakh students registered for 'Pariksha Pe Charcha,' with more than 16 lahks coming from state boards.
PM Modi also came out firmly against the use of unfair exam techniques.
"Cheating may help someone pass an exam or two, but it will not benefit them in life, he claims. Never take the easy way out. Students' hard effort would always help them grow in life " he stated.
He added that pupils should examine the pressure placed on them to see if they are underestimating their abilities.
