Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and cool.
Digital Desk: Temperatures rose unusually high across the country in February. In fact, the country experienced the warmest February since 1877, according to the India Meteorological Department. The highest temperature reached 29.54 degrees Celsius on average.
The IMD also stated that, while there was low chance of heat waves in March, most sections of the country could see extreme weather conditions in April and May. Meanwhile, passengers on the road have been suffering the brunt of the blazing sun.
Here are ten ways in which you can protect yourself from the heat wave:
1) Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and cool.
2) Dress appropriately: To allow air to circulate about your body, dress in light-colored, loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fibres such as cotton or linen.
3) Remain indoors or seek shade during the warmest portions of the day, which are normally between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
4) Use sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
5) Cool off with water: Cool off by taking cool showers or baths, misting yourself with water using a spray bottle, or going for a swim.
6) Eat light, refreshing meals: Avoid heavy, high-calorie meals that can make you feel sluggish and instead go for light, refreshing, easy-to-digest meals.
7) Keep your home cool: Use fans or air conditioning to keep your home cool and comfortable.
8) Stay informed: To be informed about high heat conditions in your area, keep a watch on weather forecasts and heat advisories.
9) Take breaks: If you must be outside, take regular breaks in the shade or indoors to allow your body to cool down.
10) Listen to your body: If you feel overheated, dizzy, or nauseous, seek medical attention immediately as these are signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
