The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has stated that it is in exploratory talks with 10 cities but has not provided a timeline for when it intends to award the 2036 edition.
Digital Desk: Sports minister Anurag Thakur stated that India is "seriously" thinking about applying to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
The second-most populous country in the globe has previously held the Asian and Commonwealth Games, and Thakur told the Times of India newspaper that the "perfect time" had come to host the Olympics.
"If India is creating headlines in every industry, from manufacturing to services, why isn't it doing the same in sports?"
"India is seriously considering submitting a proposal for the 2036 Olympics," Thakur added.

The following three Olympic Games will be held in Paris, Los Angeles, and Brisbane.
In addition to Qatar, which hosted this year's FIFA World Cup, other competitors for the Games are South Korea, Indonesia, and Indonesia. Despite fierce local opposition, Germany is debating whether to make another Olympic bid.
To create a path for the IOC session in Mumbai the following year, Thakur announced his government would speak with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
"The IOC session is a major event for India, and the government will support the IOA in any efforts made to submit a bid together with it. It must be jointly planned."
In 1951, 1982, and 2010, New Delhi served as the venue for both the Asian and Commonwealth Games. Thakur predicted Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would be mentioned as a potential Olympic host.
Gujarat has previously stated its interest in hosting the Olympics, the man claimed. "They have the necessary infrastructure. The Gujarat state government's platform also includes hosting the Olympics there."
