India makes e-visas must for all Afghan nationals, previously issued visas no longer valid: MHA

New Delhi: To facilitate the smooth evacuation of Afghan nationals from Kabul to India, the Government of India announced the introduction of an e-Emergency X-Misc visa, under which Afghan Nationals who wish to come to India, can apply for the emergency visa.

One wishing to come to India from Afghanistan (only for Afghan nationals) has to apply for an emergency visa on its official website.

"Keeping in view that many passports of Afghan nationals may have been misplaced, previously issued to all Afghan nationals, and who are presently not in India, stand invalidated with immediate effect," stated the official release by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

India announced on August 17 that an emergency e-visa to Afghan nationals has been issued for the people who wish to relocate to India because of the prevailing situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban take over Afghanistan.

The government also announced that all Afghans, irrespective of their religion, can apply for the 'e-Emergency X-Misc Visa' online. The announcement came two days after the Taliban captured power in Afghanistan.

"The MHA reviews visa provisions because of the current situation in Afghanistan. A new category of electronic visa called 'e-Emergency X-Misc Visa' introduced to fast-track visa applications for entry into India," a Home Ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

Officials said that since Indian missions in Afghanistan are shut, visas can be applied online, and the applications will be examined and processed in New Delhi. The visa is valid for six months, they said.
