    Iran releases 5 Indian sailors from seized MSC Aries ship

    The Indian Embassy praised the Iranian authorities for their strong communication with the Embassy and Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas, while also providing details of their release. 

    Digital Desk: The Indian Embassy in Iran reported on Thursday that five of the Indian sailors who were detained by Tehran on a vessel with ties to Israel had been released. It also stated that the sailors had left the nation in the evening. 

    The Indian Embassy praised the Iranian authorities for their strong communication with the Embassy and Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas, while also providing details of their release. 

    In an X post, the Indian Embassy in Iran wrote, "5 of the Indian sailors on MSC Aries have been released and departed from Iran today evening. We appreciate the Iranian authorities for their close coordination with the Embassy and Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas."

    On April 13, Iran seized the cargo ship that was associated with Israel, capturing 17 people from India. 

    The MSC Aries was last seen on April 12 traveling into the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Dubai. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy captured the container ship close to the Strait of Hormuz. 

    One of the 17 Indian sailors was freed on April 18 and made his way back to Kerala. 

    Officials from the government greeted Thrissur resident Ann Tessa Joseph upon her arrival from Iran at the Cochin International Airport.
