The ITO, Red Fort and Ring Road regions were underwater due to severe waterlogging…
Digital desk: Many important arterial roadways and the surrounding areas in the nation's capital remained underwater on Sunday as a result of heavy rains and overflowing of the Yamuna River.
A blame game between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ensued as the Yamuna River's water levels dropped after they had breached the danger mark and flooded many areas of the national capital. However, several areas were still affected by waterlogging.
Yamuna River's water level was recorded at 206.02 meters on Sunday down from 207.58 meters recorded on Saturday morning.
The ITO, Red Fort and Ring Road regions were still underwater due to severe waterlogging. Additionally, some images displayed water sneaking into the famous Red Fort wall near the Ring Road from the overflowing Yamuna.
Meanwhile, the walled city area near Kashmere Gate in Delhi and Akshardham remained submerged, as seen in images that showed the extent of the flooding.
However, the route from Majnu Ka Tila to Kashmere Gate saw a decline in the water level. For the locals in the area, who have been stranded for the past few days due to heavy floods brought on by record rains and the release of water into the Yamuna, this would be a big relief.
On Saturday night, while the Yamuna continued to overflow, troops from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted rescue operations in the low-lying districts near Pragati Maidan.
Hundreds of people spent the night at a relief camp in Mayur Vihar after being evacuated by NDRF members from low-lying regions.
It should be mentioned that some areas of the national capital saw fresh rainstorms on Saturday which resulted in extensive waterlogging at arterial stretches and slowed down traffic.
