MPs from northeast visit PM Modi, blames Congress for the Assam-Mizoram dispute

New Delhi: BJP MPs from Northeastern states had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday over the ongoing tension between the Assam-Mizoram border, accusing the Congress party of creating a political disturbance in the state.

The Memorandum submitted by a group of 16 BJP MLAs, including Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Former Assam Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, told PM Modi that Chief Minister of Assam and Chief Minister of Mizoram had expressed interest to solve the border tension harmoniously; but the Congress is playing politics over the issue which has resulted in a state of insurgency in both the states.

The Memorandum stated, “A series of confidence building measures have taken place over the last few days yet the actions of the congress party remain as devious and mischievous.”

Praising the Modi led NDA government, the MPs in its Memorandum stated, “The NDA government has carried out unparalleled and historic works in the region while the congress government has failed to do so.”

The MPs alleged that Congress used the Assam-Mizoram issue to generate chaos in India and claimed Congress had zero regards for the Northeast; they only want to use it as a political strategy to gain votes.

Speaking to the media persons, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju asserted, “PM Modi told to the MPs that Northeast is close to his heart and he did not look Northeast from the angle of politics.”

Earlier in the day, Mizoram Governor K Hari Babu had a meeting with PM Modi; post the meeting, the governor stated, “The Union Ministry is trying to find a solutions over the matter, both the Assam CM and Mizoram CM have promised that peace and harmony will be reinstall in both the states.”

Earlier, Congress accusing the Modi-led NDA government as double-standard said it has failed to handle the interstate border dispute.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi stated if such an incident had happened in non-BJP ruling states, the NDA government would have deployed the army and had imposed President Rule in the state.
