    Digital Desk: Cyclone 'Biparjoy' intensifies into an extremely severe storm in the previous 6 hours as it travelled roughly northwards at a speed of 2 kmph, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).


    The IMD indicated in its most recent advisory, which was published at 9:00 a.m. (IST) on Wednesday, that the cyclone is projected to move roughly northwards in the next 24 hours while maintaining its strength. In the following three days, it would move north-northwestwards.


    The IMD cautioned of poor weather and sea conditions in the southwestern states over the next three to four days, with wind speeds likely reaching 135-145 kmph and gusting up to 160 kmph. The IMD has also urged fishermen not to go out into the sea.


    The cyclonic storm remains stable for three hours as of 2:30 a.m. on June 7, roughly 900 km west-southwest of Goa, 1020 km southwest of Mumbai, 1090 km south-southwest of Porbandar, and 1380 km south of Karachi.



    The effects of Cyclone Biparjoy are expected to be felt in numerous southern states. The IMD has issued a wind warning for these areas for the next five days.


    On June 7, gale winds of 80-90 kmph with gusts up to 100 kmph are expected over the east-central Arabian Sea and neighbouring parts of the west-central and southeast Arabian Sea.


    By evening, strong winds may pick up to 95-105 kph with gusts up to 115 kph in the same area. The storm is expected to have the greatest impact on adjacent parts of the west-central and south Arabian Sea, as well as the coasts of north Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa.

    Wind speeds are likely to increase further on June 8, reaching 115-125 kmph with gusts up to 140 kmph in the evening. Strong winds are expected along the beaches of Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra.


    Wind speeds may reach 135-145 kmph by June 9, with gusts reaching 160 kmph in the evening, affecting the neighbouring areas of the South Arabian Sea, Karnataka, and the Goa-Maharashtra beaches.


    On June 10, gale winds of 145-155 kph with gusts up to 170 kph are expected over the central Arabian Sea. The South Arabian Sea, as well as the beaches of north Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, will be affected.


    Fishermen have been issued warnings-


    To safeguard the safety, the IMD has issued a caution to fishermen not to enter the sea until June 10. Fishermen who are currently at sea are encouraged to return to shore.


    Based on the IMD's official website, fishermen should avoid travelling into the central and nearby parts of the south Arabian Sea from June 7 to 9, and the central and surrounding areas of the north and south Arabian Sea on June 10.


    Fishermen along and off the shores of Kerala and Karnataka, as well as Lakshadweep and the Maldives, should exercise caution on June 6 and 7. While those along and off the Konkan-Goa-Maharashtra beaches should exercise caution from June 8 to June 10, according to the IMD.
