Mahatma Gandhi, better known as Bapu, is the Father of our Nation. He has been a stalwart supporter of India's freedom and independence cause. Mahatma Gandhi, or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869, in the Gujarat town of Porbandar. He advocated nonviolent resistance and was in the forefront of the freedom struggle against colonial British control. This resulted in India's eventual independence in 1947. His strong commitment in 'Swaraj' (self-governance) and 'Ahimsa' (non-violence) earned him international acclaim.
As a result, this day is marked to honour all freedom fighters who dedicated their lives to safeguarding the country. January 30 is also recognised as a day of nonviolence and peace, with ceremonies and events held across the country.
Gandhi was shot three times in the chest and stomach by Godse. "Hey Ram," Gandhi is said to have said as his final words. "Do I have the brave's nonviolence in me? My death alone will demonstrate this. "If someone assassinated me and I died with a prayer for the assassin on my lips and God's recall and realisation of His alive presence in the sanctuary of my heart, then and only then would I be regarded to have possessed the nonviolence of the courageous," Gandhi had spoken these words a few days before his death.
On this day, the president, vice president, prime minister, defence minister, and the three Service Chiefs (Army, Air Force, and Navy) laid floral garlands at his Samadhi at Raj Ghat in Delhi. At 11 a.m., the country observes a two-minute silence in honour of Indian martyrs.
