Digital Desk: On Tuesday, Maoist banners appeared at Majhipali Chowk along the Biju Expressway in Bargarh's Paikmal block, encouraging residents to boycott the upcoming panchayat elections. The two banners, allegedly put up by the outlawed CPI (MaoistBargarh-Balangir-Mahasamund )'s (BBM) divisional committee, were confiscated by police when panic spread in Majhipali, which includes 22 gram panchayats.
Maoists urged villagers to boycott the panchayat elections using posters written in Hindi. The ultras denounced the election as rigged and urged residents to struggle for true development in their communities. The banners said, "Villagers should expose and challenge the false promises offered by capitalistic authorities."
While residents were alarmed by the banners, authorities initiated an inquiry to determine the validity and authenticity of the propaganda posters. According to sources, the Maoists may have erected the banners to make their presence known in the region before of the panchayat elections.
According to SDPO Bibhuti Bhusan Bhoi, there hasn't been any Maoist activity in Paikmal block in over two years. "There's no need to be concerned; everything is in order." "All necessary measures will be taken to guarantee that the election is free and fair," Bhoi remarked.
