Digital Desk: This evening, a group of men wielding swords
attacked a police van carrying Aaftab Amin Poonawala, who is accused of the
horrific murder of girlfriend Shraddha Walkar in Delhi. According to sources,
the police were able to maintain control of the situation, and Poonawala is
safe.
The Hindu Sena, a right-wing group, has claimed responsibility
for the attack. The entire country is "watching how Aftab cut a Hindu girl
into pieces," according to the organization's National President, Vishnu
Gupta.
According to sources, the police van was transporting Poonawala
back to jail from the Forensic Science Laboratory in west Delhi after his
second polygraph test.
The assault occurred outside the FSL building.
According to sources, the men blocked the police van by parking
their car in front of it. Then five men charged at the van, brandishing swords.
The cops, according to sources, drew their weapons and countered.
There were no injuries, and two of the attackers were
apprehended. They identified themselves as Nigam Gujjar and Kuldeep Thakur, and
stated that they lived in Gurugram. They also claimed to be members of the
Hindu Sena, which is being investigated by the police.
Poonawala claims he murdered Shraddha during an argument. After
storing the body in a refrigerator for days, he cut it into 35 pieces and
disposed of them in various parts of Delhi. Less than 20 parts have been
recovered and DNA tests have been performed.
In court, he also admitted to the murder, but it did not count
as evidence because the proceedings were about extending his police remand.
The results of the subsequent polygraph test or narco-analysis
are also inadmissible in court.
There are no primary witnesses in this case. Currently, the
police have only circumstantial evidence of the heinous crime that has shocked
the nation.
Poonawala is being held in
Tihar's jail number 4 under 24-hour video surveillance.
