Mithali Raj sets record, joins Sachin Tendulkar in elite index

At Bay Oval, India thrashed Pakistan by 107 runs to get their campaign off to a flying start.

Digital Desk: Mithali Raj, the captain of India's women's team, reached a significant milestone on Sunday during the current Women's World Cup game vs arch-rivals Pakistan.

Mithali Raj has become the first woman to play in six ODI World Cups as she took the field for Team India's championship opener against Pakistan at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

The experienced striker first appeared in the World Cup in 2000, then again in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2022.

Mithali Raj beat out Debbie Hockley, a veteran New Zealand player, and England's Charlotte Edwards.

She is the 2nd Indian cricket player after Sachin Tendulkar, who played in 6 ODI World Cups. The former India player competed in the men's ODI World Cup in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011.

Raj follows Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistan's Javed Miandad as the only players in six ODI World Cups. Furthermore, in the current Women's World Cup match, India won the toss and chose to open against Pakistan.

"We're heading to bat. It's an excellent wicket for hitting. Put up a considerable total to put them under strain. Three seamers and three spinners will be used. We want to enter the competition with a clean slate, building on our victory over New Zealand in the previous match. My desire to play well in WCs has kept me going. " Mithali Raj stated.
