Following the rise of communal clashes, the Haryana government had previously also suspended mobile internet access in Nuh.
Digital Desk: Chandigarh: On Saturday, the Haryana government issued an order suspending mobile internet and bulk SMS services in the divisive Nuh till August 28 in light of the call for a "Shobha Yatra."
The decision was made public by the administration in response to the spread of rumours on social media before or during the planned gathering on Monday by anti-social groups.
On Saturday, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) T V S N Prasad issued the suspension order.
Following the rise of communal clashes, the Haryana government had previously also suspended mobile internet access in Nuh.
Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, were killed in the communal disputes that broke out in Nuh on July 31 when a crowd attacked a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) religious procession.
“… This order is issued to prevent disturbance of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of district Nuh and shall be in force with effect from August 26, 1200 hrs, to August 28, 2359 hrs..,” the order issued by Prasad read.
The ACS (Home) was informed earlier on Friday by the Nuh Deputy Commissioner in writing that the district has been called upon to hold a "Brij Mandal Shoba Yatra" on 28 August and that there is concern that anti-social elements may use social media and bulk messages to disturb the peace.
The DC wrote, asking the ACS (Home) to send the appropriate instructions, "Therefore, it is necessary to suspend all mobile internet and bulk SMS service in Nuh district to avoid any unfavourable situation."
In his Saturday order, Prasad stated that the propagation of rumours and inflammatory content online presents a clear risk of disrupting public utilities, causing damage to public property and services, and upsetting public law and order in Nuh.
The mobile internet services (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, CDMA, GPRS), bulk SMS (except banking and mobile recharging), and all dongle services offered over mobile networks—aside from voice calls—were temporarily suspended per his instruction.
