Morbi Bridge Collapse: All victims retrieved, no one missing; Reports
Up to four of the nine suspects in the incident have been detained and handed over to police. Five remain on the loose.

Digital Desk: In the tragedy of the collapse of the Morbi bridge in Gujarat district, all the victims have been retrieved, and no one is missing, government authorities stated on Thursday.

After a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town collapsed on Sunday, throwing people into the Machchhu river, at least 135 people were killed and over 100 more were injured.

The police verified earlier information provided to the Morbi district administration that one person was still missing from the incident, but they soon revealed it to be untrue.

According to information from the district administration, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) commandant Prasanna Kumar also stated on Wednesday that one or two persons were still missing and that the rescue effort was still in progress.

Up to four of the nine suspects in the incident have been detained and handed over to police. Five remain on the loose.

Under IPC sections 304 and 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Gujarat Police had filed a First Information Report against the nine members of the Oreva gang who were allegedly in charge of the tragic bridge collapse.

Four people are being held by the police, two of them are managers for the Oreva firm, which opened the bridge to users after seven months of maintenance work, and the other two are employees of a construction work contractor.

Rahul Tripathi, SP, Morbi, reacted on the current probe, saying, "We are questioning all 4 accused while they are in our custody and we are trying to establish the accountability of the various types of errors in the bridge reconstruction. We're doing a comprehensive investigation, and whoever is implicated will be detained and booked."

“Yes, we have submitted a scientific report to the court, but we are unable to reveal its details to you at this time since doing so would impair our investigation. On Wednesday, Gujarat marked a day of national sorrow, with the flag flying at half-staff on all official buildings in the state,” he said.
