From Monday, the price of token milk (bulk vended milk) will be Rs 50 per litre instead of the current price of Rs 48 per litre.
Digital Desk: Mother Dairy will increase the price of full-cream milk by Re 1 per litre and token milk by Rs 2 per litre in the Delhi-NCR market, with effect from Monday, citing an increase in input costs.
Mother Dairy, one of the top milk suppliers in Delhi-NCR with volumes of more than 30 million litres per day, has raised milk prices four times this year.
According to a business spokeswoman, Mother Dairy has raised the price of full-cream milk by Re 1 to Rs 64 per litre.
However, the firm hasn't changed the costs of full-cream milk packaged in 500 ml containers.
From Monday, the price of token milk (bulk vended milk) will be Rs 50 per litre instead of the current price of Rs 48 per litre.
During a time when food inflation is already at a high level, the increase in milk costs will strain household finances.
Mother Dairy put the price increase down to a rise in the cost of buying raw milk from dairy producers.
The representative continued, "This year, the entire dairy business is witnessing a large imbalance in the supply and demand of milk."
The rising cost of feed and fodder as well as the unpredictable monsoon affected raw milk availability and costs, the company stated.
Additionally, Mother Dairy reported an increase in demand for packaged milk.
"Prices for raw milk have risen further as a result of the persistent supply-demand imbalance that has persisted even after the holiday season. As a result, we are forced to pass on some of the effects by revising some versions' consumer prices "added the spokeswoman.
According to Mother Dairy, the pricing adjustment will allow the business to continue providing farmers with fair compensation while ensuring that consumers receive high-quality milk.
About 75% to 80% of the prices consumers pay for milk are transferred by Mother Dairy to the milk producers.
On October 16, Mother Dairy raised the cost of full-cream milk and cow milk in Delhi-NCR and a few other North Indian markets by Rs 2 per litre.
In March and August, prices were also increased by Rs 2 per litre for all variations.
Another significant competitor in the Delhi-NCR market is Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk under the Amul brand. Each day, it sells close to 40 lakh litres.
The world's largest producer of milk, India, produces about 210 million tonnes of milk each year.
