Mumbai records 8063 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours

Digital Desk: The threat of Coronavirus seems to be never-ending. After a long time, despite having Section 144 imposed, Mumbai recorded 8063 new covid cases in the last 24 hours. This increase in cases indicated a 27% rise since yesterday.

With this number, the total tally of Covid cases in the state moves to 7,99,520. The everyday positivity rate rose from 13% on Saturday to 16.9% on Sunday. Active Covid cases in Mumbai stand at 29,819. The city logged 578 recoveries on Sunday.

"Today, 8063 new Covid cases have been detected in Mumbai, out of which 89% were found to be asymptomatic. The total number of active cases in Mumbai are now 29819. However, out of 8063 new cases today, only 503 have been hospitalised, out of which 56 cases have been put on oxygenated beds. As of today, 90% of hospital beds in Mumbai are vacant," read the report from a civic official.

The Mumbai Municipal Commissioner pleaded to all the home quarantined patients to strictly stay by home quarantine guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus in Mumbai at the earliest possible.

"I also plead to the residents at large to strictly follow Covid appropriate manners. There is no reason to panic, but at the same time, all of us have to be especially careful and exercise extreme Covid appropriate behaviour. Mask is mandatory in the public domain, and citizens should refrain from going to crowded places. All of us must join hands to tide over this new wave of Covid pandemic," read Commissioner's message.

On Saturday, the civic body stated that it has chosen to hospitalise just symptomatic patients infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19. This initiative will save beds for those patients who are in need. Asymptomatic patients, 80 per cent of the infected patients, will be either admitted at Covid Care Centre-2 (CCC-2) at the ward level or quarantined at specified hotels at their own cost.
