Navjot Singh Sidhu resigns from the post of Punjab Congress chief

In the recently ended Punjab Vidhan Sabha polls, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was overpowered in the Amritsar East constituency.

Digital Desk: Navjot Singh Sidhu, a Congress leader, resigned as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on Wednesday.

As a result of the Congress' catastrophic defeat in all of these states, Congress President Sonia Gandhi sought the resignations of the state leaders of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa, and Punjab on Tuesday.

"I have given my resignation as requested by the Congress President..." Navjot Singh Sidhu stated on Twitter, alongside a picture of his resignation note.

Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation as PPCC head isn't the first juncture he's done so. Sidhu extended his resignation in September 2021, requiring the removal of DGP I P S Sahota and Advocate General A P S Deol. A split allegedly pushed his release with Charanjit Singh Channi, the newly designated Chief Minister of Punjab at the time.

In the recently ended Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, Punjab Congress chairman Navjot Singh Sidhu was defeated in the Amritsar East constituency. Jeevanjyot Kaur, an AAP candidate and political newcomer defeated Sidhu by 6,750 votes.

Ganesh Godiyal, the president of the Uttarakhand Congress, also resigned on Tuesday, admitting moral responsibility for the party's electoral setback in the state.
