Digital Desk: The Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla, is likely to take up a no-confidence motion for discussion on August 8, 9, and 10.

Last week, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, on behalf of the opposition parties of I.N.D.I.A alliance filed a no-confidence motion against PM Narendra Modi's government. After assessing the support it has, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla acknowledged the motion and stated that it would be scheduled for discussion.

"I will discuss with the leaders of all parties and inform you of an appropriate time to take this up for discussion," the Speaker said.

This no-confidence vote poses virtually no threat to the Narendra Modi government, which has the support of at least 332 Lok Sabha MPs. Meanwhile, the opposition has stated that they are well aware that they may fail the numerical test and that the goal of this motion is to put pressure on the prime minister to speak out about the violence in Manipur.

While the government has proposed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah address the subject in Parliament, opposition parties have demanded a comprehensive debate in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, as well as a statement from the Prime Minister.
