On Wednesday, Brij Bhushan reiterated his innocence and said that if the wrestlers have any evidence, they should present it to court and he is ready to accept any punishment.
Digital Desk: Delhi Police denied media reports on Wednesday that stated there was not enough evidence to detain BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The police made it clear that the report is "wrong" and that they were still looking into the sensitive issue.
"Several media outlets are reporting that the Delhi Police hasn't discovered enough evidence in the cases filed against the former president of the World Federation of Industries, and a final report on the topic is scheduled to be presented before the relevant Court. It is to explain that this news is "wrong" and that the investigation into this sensitive issue is ongoing with the utmost tact," according to a statement from Delhi Police.
When the news agency ANI reported that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh cannot be arrested since there is insufficient evidence against him in the matter of alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers, including children, the Delhi Police responded with a statement.
"As of the right moment, we don't have enough proof to place Brij Bhushan Singh under arrest. We'll be submitting our report to the court in 15 days. A chargesheet or a final report could be used as the format. The claim made by the wrestlers is unsupported by any evidence," ANI reported said quoting top sources.
Immersing medals won't get me hanged: Brij Bhushan
On Wednesday, Brij Bhushan reiterated his innocence and said that if the wrestlers have any evidence, they should present it to court and he is ready to accept any punishment.
"If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, present it to the Court and I am ready to accept any punishment... it's been four months, but the government is not hanging me, they are now going to the Ganga to immerse their medals. Immersing the medals won't get me hanged. This is just an emotional drama," the BJP MP said.
The top wrestlers of India including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, etc. are protesting against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for over a month now, demanding his arrest. The protestors were removed from their protest site, Jantar Mantar on Sunday after Delhi Police clamped down on the protestors while they were leading a women ‘Mahapanchayat’ to the new Parliament building.
On Tuesday, the wrestlers which included Olympic medal winners like Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia announced that they will immerse their medals in the river Ganga. The wrestlers even reached Haridwar in the evening but after the farmer leader Naresh Tikait intervened, the wrestlers agreed to re-think their decision.
