Digital Desk: Cyclone Mocha is forming over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a very severe storm by Friday (May 12) with wind speeds of up to 130 kmph, alerted Indian Meteorological Department.
Over the south-east Bay of Bengal, a depression was formed in a well-defined low-pressure region, with wind speeds increasing to 45 to 55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph.
The weather bureau also projected heavy rain on May 12, with the system likely to move north-northwestward till the morning of May 12 and then towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. The impact of Mocha is predicted to cause heavy rainfall in the northeastern regions throughout the weekend.
Northeastern states including Assam, Nagaland and Manipur will receive heavy rainfall on Sunday (May 14).
