Over 170 homeless people have died due to extreme cold in the Capital: Reports
Digital Desk: In the previous 28 days, at least 170 homeless people in Delhi have expired due to the extreme cold. This information was obtained in a report by the Center for Holistic Development (CHD), a non-governmental organisation.

The CHD has written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the chairman of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), demanding that suitable winter accommodations be made for the homeless.

A considerable number of homeless persons sleep in the open in places like Sarai Kale Khan, Asaf Ali Road, Kashmere Gate, Azadpur, Nizamuddin, Okhla, Chandni Chowk, and Delhi Gate, according to a CHD official.

According to the NGO, at least 170 homeless people died in Delhi due to intense cold on January 25.

The DUSIB, on the other hand, has refuted the report, claiming that the board takes excellent care of the city's homeless.

Due to a Western Disturbance, Delhi had bitterly cold weather in January.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi experienced its coldest day in January in nine years on Tuesday, with a maximum temperature of 12.1 degrees Celsius, 10 degrees below normal.

Similarly, significant rains fell on the national capital and its surrounding areas this month.

In January of this year, Delhi received 88.2 mm of rain, which is a new record. After receiving 88.2 mm of rain in the first month of the year, the capital city set a new record for rainfall in 122 years.

In response to the report, BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated that the Kejriwal administration has once again rendered the homeless people of the national capital impoverished.

He expressed his dissatisfaction at the news.
