New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official Twitter account was hacked in the early morning hours of Sunday. PMO has shared the information on the social networking site today.
This news came to light when a link got shared in the official Twitter account of PM Modi. The post was related to a scam link that included a bitcoin giveaway.
The link read, "I appeal to you all to donate generously to PM National Relief Fund for Covid-19. Now India begins with cryptocurrency. Kindly Donate Bitcoin…" This, too, was followed by a probe by Twitter.

"The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter, and the account has been immediately secured. In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored," tweeted PMO India.
Later, the official account was restored, and the malicious tweets were deleted. Before being restored, a tweet was shared with a URL on PM Modi's timeline read, "India has officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender. The government has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing them to all country residents."
